Snap is free and open source — view it on GitHub

  1. Open Snap.dmg and drag Snap into your Applications folder.
  2. Open Snap from Applications. macOS will say it can’t verify the app — click Done (not Move to Trash).
  3. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down to Security, and click Open Anyway next to the message about Snap. The button shows for about an hour after you try to open the app.
  4. Click Open Anyway again to confirm, then enter your Mac login password or use Touch ID.
  5. Snap opens. From now on it opens like any other app.

On macOS 14 Sonoma or earlier, you can instead Control-click Snap in Applications, choose Open, then click Open again.
